They then identify the most important decreased bacterial groups and found that members of the beneficial genus Lactobacillus (Lactobacillus murinus, or L. 6 Mar 2018 Improvement in glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity by probiotic strains of Indian gut origin in high-fat diet-fed C57BL/6J mice. Eur. J. Nutr. 14 Jun 2017 The genomes of 175 lactobacilli and 38 associated species were over twice as many bacteriocins as those from other sources. L. murinus DSM 20452 was one of the strains which demonstrated bacteriocin production.

Microbiol. (2000) 50:1391-1392. (Note: verification of separate species status of Lactobacillus murinus may be required.) Lactobacillus murinus CR147, an isolate in the most abundant operational taxonomic unit (OTU) enriched by CR, downregulated interleukin-8 production in TNF-α-stimulated Caco-2 cells and significantly increased the lifespan and the brood size of the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans.

reuteri represented 72% of the isolated species (Hemme et al. 1980; Reuter 2001). Lactobacillus murinus ASF 361 was kindly provided by Dr. Michael Wannemuehler at Iowa State University. This project was funded by the Agriculture and Food Research Initiative Grant 2012067017030219 from the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture.
Subcommittee on the taxonomy of Bifidobacterium, Lactobacillus and related organisms. Minutes of the meetings, 22 and 23 September
A specific strain of Lactobacillus murinus in the most abundant operational taxonomic unit (OTU) was isolated from the feces of CR mice and shown to be a key mediator of the anti-ageing and anti- inflammatory effects of CR in various experimental sys- tems, including Caco-2 cells, Caenorhabditis elegans and old microbiota-colonized gnotobiotic mice. Lactobacillus murinus L1 was isolated from faeces of a Wistar rat and initially identified on the basis of Gram staining, catalase test and carbohydrate fermentation pattern as determined by using the API 50CHL kit (bioMérieux, Marcy l′Etoile, France). For two weeks, the researchers fed mice a diet in which sodium chloride (table salt) made up 4 percent of what the animals were eating, compared to 0.5 percent for mice on a normal diet. They found that this diet led to a drop in the population of a type of bacteria called Lactobacillus murinus. These mice also had greater populations of inflammatory Th-17 cells, and their blood pressure went up.

Reuterin production is increased in the presence of E. coli, suggesting that the effects of this protein are aimed at eliminating competing microbes, giving L. reuteri an advantage in adherence and colonization of host mucosa. UniProtKB. x; UniProtKB.
